Sooke Modular Additions

School District 62 (Sooke) has engaged studioHuB architects’ services in the Progressive Design-Build of two additions — each are comprised of 8 classrooms and are located at Ruth King Elementary School in Langford Municipality, and David Cameron Elementary School in Colwood Municipality.

The design incorporates a blend of familiarity and creativity, utilizing the same design for both site locations, while introducing vibrant, site-specific colors that complement the existing school buildings.

Each site has it’s own specific challenges, with contaminated soils, need for new fire department connections, and existing septic field and other site constrains.

The proposed massing features two playful gable roofs connected by a learning commons, project space and a central hub for students.

The design includes 21st Century Learning Principles, gender neutral washrooms, as well as Special Education programming and teacher prep. Classrooms have been provided a project space connected by a sliding wall. Materials have been carefully chosen, such as wood on the ceilings for enhanced biophillic qualities, writable walls, and flexible furniture.

studioHuB is working with EXO Construction Group on the delivery of these two buildings. The project is currently under construction and anticipated to be completed by September 2024.
