ALVIN MARTIN

Alvin has over 25 years of experience with a broad range of building typologies throughout British Columbia. He has a particular focus and passion for public facilities that are required to serve our communities. He has led the design and construction of projects across the province including Educational, Civic, and Industrial, as well as Private Residences. Common threads that can be found through all these projects include a strong desire for sustainable designs that are also deeply rooted in their site and surrounding context.
ANA CADENA

Ana, drawing inspiration from her family of engineers and architects, pursued her studies in Integral Design in Ecuador, followed by a master’s degree in museum management and design in Spain. Since then, she has worked on coordinating furniture, exhibit, and interior design projects in both Quito and Madrid. After moving to Canada, she obtained a post-graduate diploma in business management, making her a valuable asset to the studioHuB architects team. Ana is passionate about her work, particularly project management and developing projects for children.
ANNERIEKE VAN HOEK

Annerieke is an exceptional listener with a deep passion for educational design. She has extensive experience in the design and construction of educational spaces from complex renovations to coordinating large design-build teams and leading projects from competition through to design and construction. Annerieke’s prior experience includes working at Grant + Sinclair Architects and at HCMA Architecture + Design, where she was an Associate. She is a current member of the West Vancouver Design Review Committee and volunteers her time as an oral reviewer and mentor with the AIBC.
BRANDON PARKER

Brandon is dedicated to designing livable environments in a conscientious way. He aspires to bring more accountability to the design process, using sustainable building practices and an introspective lens with respect to the community. Brandon’s passion for architecture is grounded in a fascination for how the human condition informs building design. His thesis focused on creating a staging ground for communication within a protest, exploring the creation of soft spaces through inflatable architecture to help stave off the potential risk of violence in highly volatile environments.
BREANNA MULHALL

Breanna is a Métis architect whose interests are grounded in community well-being.
Prior to joining our team, Breanna dedicated 6+ years to designing healthcare environments with a focus on Primary and Urgent Care, Mental Health, and Emergency Department design. Breanna understands the complexities involved with delivering quality specialized environments from start-to-finish; she is currently applying her expertise to a multitude of project typologies, including supportive housing for women and children, an animal shelter, and an Indigenous community centre. Breanna is passionate about employing her creativity as a catalyst for positive change.

Cynthia holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC, in addition to attending Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Her thesis focused on architectural greenery systems for healing and wellness in therapeutic environments. Cynthia has worked on institutional, commercial, and residential projects at design offices in Toronto and Vancouver. Cynthia brings a passion for healthy and sustainable building design to the studioHuB architects team.

With many years of experience working on industrial, commercial, and residential design projects, Ian has been involved in all phases of the design from schematic design to project completion. He has managed projects of varying typologies throughout British Columbia. These project types range from studio sound stages to freezer buildings, conventional warehouses, and office buildings.
Ian is particularly passionate about sustainable design and creating a healthy and balanced relationship between the natural and built environments. He aspires to improve the quality of life of individuals within communities and social surroundings through his work.

Elliot brings an appreciation for how architecture can have a positive impact on our environment and the way we live. He is passionate about sustainable design and brings experience in the use of advanced wood design, passive house, and restorative design. His educational experience has given him a desire to create transformative learning environments. During his time living in Barcelona and travelling abroad, he has learned how cities can be healthy, friendly, and sustainable. Elliot has worked on a variety of projects and scales, including institutional, commercial, industrial, and residential.
FRANK HUANG

Frank, a recent graduate from BCIT with a Bachelor of Architectural Science, is driven by his passion of model-making, which has deeply influenced his architectural journey. With experiences in institutional, residential, cultural projects, Frank explores different construction methods and materials. His approach to each project prioritizing user experience, sustainability, building performance, and site responsiveness.
He’s work aims to create integrated architectural solutions that resonate with the user, the community, and environment.
JOANNA SOTOMSKI

Joanna has been working as a technologist in the architectural industry since graduating from BCIT’s Architectural Building Technology Diploma program in 2015. She is currently broadening her architectural experience through RAIC’s Syllabus program, an alternative approach to becoming a registered architect by acquiring the required work experience for AIBC’s Internship in Architecture Program and academic accreditation. Joanna’s continued educational and career experience has solidified her passion and excitement for the architectural industry.
MARBEN ARMENTA

Marben is passionate about design with exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Her passion has been cultivated through her experience working and studying in diverse locations such as Mexico, Italy, and Canada. She holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial design and has furthered her education by earning a master’s degree in business administration. Marben has gained valuable experience in various aspects of design, including furniture design. Additionally, she has taught 3D modeling, managed teams of staff members and provided support to administration teams.
MICHAEL BJORNSON

With a background in architecture, art and film, Michael brings over 40 years of experience to every project, along with his passion and creativity. In the studio, he oversees quality control and provides project peer reviews, while contributing to various aspects of the design process. His work in production design for film was awarded a Leo and Golden Sheaf Film Award.
Michael has been an active mentor to AIBC interns, as a instructor, thesis advisor and mentor to students in architecture and film at UBC, Langara College and Emily Carr.
NAZLEE MARKOWSKY

Nazlee, educated in both architecture and industrial design, is passionate about the intrinsic qualities of materials and the exploration of space-making through architecture and design. She believes that design can have a positive impact on both the social and environmental landscape, in turn improving our quality of life within our communities. Working and studying in Tehran, London and Vancouver has provided Nazlee with a diverse skill set, allowing her to effectively interact and adapt to the various cultures and methods of making. Leading projects of varying scales, including institutional, commercial, and residential projects, from schematic design to occupancy, Nazlee enjoys an innovative and collaborative design approach.

Peter holds Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute and Master's in Construction Management from Tsinghua University. He is passionate about creating spaces that are accessible, healthy, and harmonious for users. Constantly exploring new ways to enhance architectural workflows and technological integrations, Peter firmly believes that great architecture not only functions as shelter for the body but also provides an escape for the mind.
SARAH BJORNSON

Sarah’s strength is her creative design sensibility, her expert technical knowledge and her ability to co-ordinate effective consultant teams while delivering projects on time and budget. With over 18 years of experience, Sarah worked at Bing Thom Architects and DIALOG (formerly HBBH), leading several large-scale projects. She is currently the BC Chapter Governor of The Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) and is an active mentor for the AIBC internship program.

Claudia is an Italian-registered architect with a background in a wide variety of projects involving primarily architectural and structural renovations of historic buildings.
In Canada, she has expanded her expertise to include industrial buildings and community-centred projects such as transitional housing. Claudia is committed to inclusive and considerate architectural practices, as reflected in her designation as an RHFAC Professional.
SARAH BOILA

Before studying architecture at the University of British Columbia, Sarah completed a Masters in Structural Engineering and worked as a structural designer. A transition into architecture allowed for a seamless blending of her technical training with her creative personal hobbies and interests, which focus on painting and small-scale furniture projects. Supported by her technical background, her work now focuses on context, community, and an appreciation of the everyday. As an avid traveler she is most comfortable lost in a bustling city or small tropical town, appreciating what daily life looks and feels like across cultures and communities.

Driven by a mission to create buildings that redefine architectural appreciation, Saneen is dedicated to incorporating sustainable practices and fostering an inclusive community. His commitment to making a positive impact is evident in every project he undertakes.

Cameron is an Intern Architect with diverse project experience in community buildings, from Firehalls, to Long Term Care Facilities and civic buildings like City Halls. He has worked in Nova Scotia, and across different regions of British Columbia. Throughout his education and practice he has been fascinated by the potential to design buildings as a lens to communicate and appreciate local landscapes and ecosystems. Cameron prioritizes empathy and compassion as core principals to design for the needs of buildings' diverse users.

Born and raised in China, Dexter’s journey in architecture has always been nurtured in the rich traditions of Chinese culture. With architecture education in Canada, and previous experience in Hangzhou & Shanghai, Dexter has helped in tackling quite a few design challenges, enhancing his ability to create impactful architectural interventions of various typologies.
Dexter views design as a powerful catalyst, capable of building better neighborhoods, communities and cities. He is interested in innovative, context-sensitive design thinking, aiming to create inspiring architecture that promotes social justice and equality.
