G.W. Graham Secondary School
studioHuB architects worked closely with the Chilliwack School District on a 19 room addition to G.W. Graham Secondary School, increasing the school’s capacity from 950 to 1400. The addition consists of two buildings: a two-storey academic wing and an industrial education and robotics building. The buildings are connected through a covered outdoor learning area, forming a secure courtyard.
The academic wing consists of specialty spaces on the main level, including a kinesiology classroom, a music room and a foods room, with a social heart connecting the exterior busloop to the addition and through to the outdoor learning area. This level includes a gender neutral washroom block. The upper level includes ten general instruction classrooms.
The exterior consists of a durable stone base with a combination of cement cladding and metal panel above. The south facade includes extensive exterior shades to mitigate heat gain, as well as an exterior canopy on the street side to provide much needed cover for the student bus drop off and pick up loop.
