Chilliwack Secondary School

“During the planning stage of the project Sarah was an invaluable team member. She understood the importance of working as a team and demonstrated excellent listening skills, professionalism, and flexibility. Her creative skills and understanding of how to blend functionality and aesthetics contributed to an overall plan that is outstanding in both aspects.”

- Corrine McCabe, Superintendant of Schools Chilliwack School District

Chilliwack Secondary School (CSS) is located in School District No.33. CSS is a facility which operates as both an academic and social campus. Unique to the region, CSS offers community services, recreational facilities, an Aboriginal Centre, an Elder’s College facility as well as a licensed daycare.

The LEED Gold Certified project includes a new high school, which replaced the previous aging facility. The school boosts a new Art, Theatre, Music and Cosmetology wing. A commercial Food Services teaching facility is centrally located in the heart of the building adjacent to a 9,600 SF multipurpose space. Both traditional and interactive, Modern Learning Initiative classrooms are integrated throughout the 200,000 SF facility, with universal accessibility throughout. The building also houses a Neighbourhood Learning Centre (NLC) and Fraser Valley Distant Education Facility (FVDES), Chilliwack Community Services (CCS), United Way, the YMCA, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development and Xyolhemeyth Child and Family Services. Completed 2014.

This project was led by Sarah, Project Architect, from competition through to occupancy, while at DIALOG.
